BookHub at MNAR - Readings with Nona Rapotan Guest Doina Jela
The BookHub series at MNAR continues this year at the National Museum of Art of Romania. The first edition of 2024 will take place on Saturday, January 20, at 11:00 AM, at the Museum of Art Collections (Calea Victoriei nr. 111), alongside the novelist Doina Jela, in a dialogue with the occasion the publication of her book titled "Cuibul din inima ei" (The Nest in Her Heart), published by Editura Corint, in the Corint Fiction collection. Regularly held at the museum, the meetings "BookHub at MNAR. Readings with Nona Rapotan" serve as a mediation between literature and plastic arts, in the company of personalities from the cultural sector.
Through the dialogue between Nona Rapotan and the writer Doina Jela, the audience will have the opportunity to discover and understand the springs that triggered the writing of her novel "Cuibul din inima ei" and the importance of the characters in the literary construction. The discussion will also have a component related to the importance of history and art in the life of writer Doina Jela, both in the process of shaping the profile of a (historical) character in the novel, about the stories that inspired the volume, and the journey from personal history to the history of a community.
Doina Jela is an established novelist, journalist, and author of essays, chronicles, reviews, and interviews, published in publications such as România literară, Contemporanul, and Observator (Munich). Her non-fiction novel "Cazul Nichita Dumitru" (The Nichita Dumitru Case), published by Humanitas Publishing House, was awarded by the International Association of Romanian Writers and Artists in Washington in 1996. Two years later, her volume "Această dragoste care ne leagă" (This Love That Binds Us) was designated as the "Book of the Year" at the International Book Fair in Timișoara. Her volume "Drumul Damascului. Spovedania unui fost torționar" (The Road to Damascus. Confessions of a Former Torturer) inspired the film director Lucian Pintilie to create the well-known film "După-amiaza unui torționar" (The Afternoon of a Torturer) in 2001.
The Museum of Art Collections comprises over fifty art collections and donations, featuring a wide variety of paintings, sculptures, graphics, Romanian and European decorative arts, in an arrangement meant to reflect the original configuration and specific atmosphere of each collection. Works by Theodor Aman, Nicolae Grigorescu, Ioan Andreescu, Nicolae Tonitza, Gheorghe Petrașcu, Theodor Pallady, Lucian Grigorescu, Iosif Iser, Camil Ressu, Francisc Șirato, Alexandru Ciucurencu, Dimitrie Ghiață are complemented by European and Japanese graphics, French furniture, Oriental carpets, as well as popular icons from Transylvania.
