For over 60 years art historian and critic Petre Oprea (1928 - 2011) studied and wrote about an impressive number of artists, chroniclers and art collectors, covering subjects often deemed uninteresting by other scholars. His writings give us a precious glimpse into days gone by. The exhibition features paintings by well-known artists alongside those of artists appreciated by past and present collectors and whom Petre Oprea wrote about.

The selection, drawn from private collections, comprises works by famous Romanian artists such as Samuel Mützner, Lucian Grigorescu, Theodor Pallady, Nicolae Dărăscu, Alexandru Ciucurencu, Francisc Șirato, Gheorghe Petrașcu as well as paintings by artists who were particularly appreciated during the inter-war period, such as Nicolae Vermont and Constantin Artachino.

The exhibition is part of the programme celebrating forty years since the establishment of the Art Collections Museum and pays homage to Petre Oprea, its initial coordinator.
