You can visit the exhibition ROMANIAS, at the National Museum of Art of Romania (MNAR) via the entrance on Știrbei Vodă Street, until 26 October 2019.
Compiling over 200 prints, videos and sound works from the photographers, the exhibition will continue traveling nationally and internationally in 2020 and beyond.

The EIDOS Foundation in Bucharest has given carte blanche to six renowned photographers to deliver their visions of contemporary Romania. The five international photographers from Magnum Photos – Bieke Depoorter, Thomas Dworzak, Paolo Pellegrin, Alec Soth and Newsha Tavakolia – and Romanian photographer Cristian Movilă have been published in the world’s most influential publications including Time Magazine, The New York Times, Der Spiegel, Le Monde and National Geographic and have exhibited their work in galleries and museums worldwide. They now collectively shine light on Romania, as the country celebrates its 100 year anniversary (1918-2018) and commemorates its 30 years since the Revolution (1989-2019).

This constellation of voices is orchestrated by Florian Ebner, Head of the Department of Photography at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. In their search for the realities and perspectives which this region can hold, the curator points out:

In ROMANIAS, photographers’ perspectives are balanced by the contributions of six authors, creating a multilayered conversation of images, texts and viewpoints involving both foreigners and Romanians in Romania, as well as Romanians from abroad. Anthropologist Alec Bălășescu, author & poet Andrei Codrescu, psychiatrist Gabriel Diaconu, writer Gideon Jacobs, historian & journalist Elena Tănase and actor Adrian Văncică all add their voice to this concerto of perspectives to reveal the many layers of this country – the many Romanias.

The exhibition has also a volume launched during the UNFINISHED Festival wich can now be ordered online at: www.emag.ro/guide/romanias. It was designed by Sascha Lobe and Pentagram, London.
